Divertissements (2018-19)

Performances: Jane Chapman and James Woodrow in the 2019 Borough New Music concert series (WP).

A heavily revised version of the original from 2002 which was written for [rout] and premiered at Ocean, Hackney, by Jane Chapman and Dave Arrowsmith.

Tänze (2018)
Instrumentation: 2 or more pianos and/or keyboards.

Duration: flexible although c. 25 minutes is usual.

Created from erased versions of Franz Schubert’s Thirty Six Original Dances.

Two Tributes and a Dance (2018)
Instrumentation: sop. sax. (dbl. cl. in A and b. cl.), vla (dbl. scordatura vln), pno.

Duration: c. 12 minutes (complete).

Performances: Trifarious at the Guildford International Music Festival (WP) and Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton on Thames.

Three trios, the first and last consisting of re-workings of Bheki and Dancing in the Moonlight originally written for Sarah Field (saxophones) and Mike Hamnett (percussion).

Dance Maze: Duos for Trumpet and Piano (2017)
Duration: c. 20 minutes.

Dance Maze is a group of three related pieces – Variations for Piano, Duos for Trumpet and Piano, Solos for Trumpet – consisting of revisions and re-workings of the solo piano piece Dance Maze premiered by Stephen Gutman in 1994 and in a revised version by Rob Keeley in 2009.

Consort Music (2014-17)

A re-working of pieces from Into the Garden (2009). It was originally written for Jane Chapman’s ‘Consort 21’ class at the Royal College of Music with an open scoring; subsequently three trio versions were made.

JPR (2015)

Five trios created from erased and superimposed versions of pieces from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Pièces de clavecin en concert scored for period instruments.

New Brew (2011)

A framework for group improvisation with a one-page score loosely based on materials from Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.

Dancing in the Moonlight and Bheki (2009)

From the Arabesque (2005)

A diptych consisting of An Opening Line (2005) and Damascene Portrait (2003) – the latter can be performed separately. Both pieces are based on Middle Eastern materials, the first invented, the second a transcription.

Four Instances (2005)

Subterrania (2003)

A virtuosic show-piece for mixed quintet based on a cantus firmus.

Damascene Portrait (2003)

This became the second piece in From the Arabesque (2005) but it can be played independently of that diptych. It also exists in two versions for saxophone quartet (2012 and 2014), the more recent of which – Damascene Redux – replaces all but the melody with guided improvisation.

Adagio (2002)
